With just a few weeks to go before the start of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, uncertainty persists as to whether Marc Brys and his staff will be part of the Indomitable Lions squad. The Cameroon Football Federation announced the invalidation of his appointment as coach, a decision contested by FECAFOOT president Samuel Eto’o.

Eto’o described this unilateral appointment as illegal and lodged an appeal with the Conciliation and Arbitration Board of the Cameroon National Olympic and Sports Committee (CNOSC). This action resulted in the immediate suspension of Marc Brys’ staff, including himself, pending resolution. FECAFOOT also reserves the right to take the matter to FIFA.

Marc Brys thus finds himself sacked without having had the opportunity to coach a single match with the national team, although in a recent article on your site Lattaquant.com, the 62-year-old denied having been sacked. Despite the announcement of his list for the forthcoming matches against Cabo Verde and Angola in June, uncertainty still hangs over who will coach the Cameroon team. However, Brys’ entourage denies the rumours of his dismissal, describing the information as “fake news”.

Despite this tense situation, Brys is continuing his preparations for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, focusing on the matches against Cabo Verde and Angola. On Thursday May 23, he even visited the Ngoa-Ekelle military stadium for the Indomitable Lions’ training sessions. He was accompanied not only by Professor Cyrille Tollo, the technical advisor to the Ministry of Sport and Physical Education, but also by the entire technical staff appointed by Narcisse Mouelle Kombi “under very high instructions”.

The latter had been presented as Rigobert Song’s successor some two months ago by Cameroon’s Minister of Sports, Narcisse Mouelle Kombi. However, a challenge to his appointment by the Cameroon Football Federation, backed by Samuel Eto’o, led to this delicate situation. The former FC Barcelona player argued that there was no legal or regulatory framework to support the appointment of Marc Brys and his technical team.
